Inground Pools for Exercise

We all know that pools are a great source of relaxation and fun. However, few of us really think of the health benefits owning an in ground pool can bring! From swimming laps, to water exercises, to the mere act of getting out of the house and frolicking around for a little while, swimming pools can give you a tan, a sense of relaxtion, and a few expertly toned muscles!

If laps are your style, consider designing your in ground pool to be long enough to get your body's worth. Flip turns are a fun little maneuver, but nothing beats the endurance of a nice long, extended stroke while fluttering your legs. Mixing up your stroke style will allow for a comprehensive workout in which a multitude of muscles are worked and toned... all while burning calories. Try the crawl or freestyle stroke, the breast stroke, the butterfly and the backstroke.

For some people, years of athleticism and maintaining their physique has taken a toll on aging joints, tendons and muscles. These people are looking for an exercise routine that allows them to stay in tip-top shape, while easing the impact on such body parts. Water or aqua aerobics are a fantastic way to burn calories while building muscle. Make up your own routine, or search for a few on the Internet. As little as 30 minutes in your pool a day can start making a noticeable difference.

Finally, if structured workouts in the pool aren't your style, simply get out there, get in the water and see what happens. Simple moves like jumping off the diving board repeatedly, doing underwater handstands, having races with friends, or playing a rousing game of Marco/Polo can burn more calories than many other daily activities. Plus, you get to be in the sun and having fun all at the same time!
