Mysterious Stains in your Inground Pool?

If you own an in ground pool, like many of your fellow owners, you may experience odd water color changes and mysterious stains. They are annoying at best, and potentially harmful at worst. The fact of the matter is that a clean pool is a delicate and perhaps precarious balance of water and chemicals and in order to put an end to troubling and uninviting colors, you have to know how to manipulate that balance to your favor. In some cases, the problem may be more large scale, and the mystery stain is merely a warning sign of problems to come.

One of the most common mystery stains in an in ground pool is an orange colored stain on the lining. Typically these stains appear what seems like overnight, and pool owners often struggle with finding the right way to treat the stain.

If this sounds like the mystery in ground pool stain you're trying to treat, it may be a result of a problem with your pool's rebar system. The rebar might be rusting and seeping through the surface of the gunite. The good news is, the stain is easy to treat...short term. Most people choose to do PH minus in a sock in the water, and perhaps sprinkle PH minus on the actual stain when the filter is off and scrub. This should take care of the rust color.

The bad news is, because the problem is large scale, you may have to call in the big dogs to replace the rebar system that is rusting.

Of course, you should check with your trusted pool company before taking any drastic steps. If you're experiencing an orange-colored stain, call someone to assess your rebar system.
