Protecting your Pool

By the very nature of pools, they are exposed to a vast majority of elements. Between intense summer storms, pounding rain, blistering hear, and chilly nights, your pool can take quite a beating.

There are some things you can do to protect your pool in the summer months while it's open. First and foremost, invest in a good pool cover. This will allow the heat to get in, and trap it in so precious solar energy is used to keep your pool at a comfortable and enjoyable temperature. Unroll the pool cover when using (never, ever swim in a pool with a partially rolled out cover), and cover it back up at night to keep the chilly temperatures from acting as a catalyst to wasting energy. Pool covers can be custom-made to fit the needs of your pool.

Also, be sure to keep debris out of your pool daily. Long handled nets will grab things like sticks, which can snag and rip your expensive liner, and leaves, which can clog your filters.

In some warm climates, bugs can be the main culprit of pool problems. In places like Florida, many residents invest in a screen that surrounds the pool and pool deck area. This allows for fun and relaxation without having to worry about swarms of bugs interrupting your precious time to relax.

Finally, be sure to follow the basic maintenance routine as explained to you by your pool company. Consider your pool to be a living thing that needs nutrition (important chemicals), cleaning (filtering and the occasionally scrubbing) and protection from the elements (a good cover).
